The legal reality
South Africa's National Gambling Act takes a hard line on real-money wagering. Here's the honest split between what's safe today and what needs a legal opinion first.
In-app Token Wallet
Players earn and transfer tokens peer-to-peer. No real money changes hands inside the app, so this sits well outside gambling regulation, and it's everything you need to prove FairwayX works.
Real-money Tokens
Buying tokens with real money and cashing out winnings is where gambling law gets involved. The module is built and ready, but we'd strongly recommend a proper legal opinion before switching on cash-out.
Our recommended path
- 1Launch with the in-app token wallet, players wager tokens, not cash.
- 2Run it for a season. Build a track record with real players and real matches.
- 3Take that track record to a lawyer for an opinion on real-money cash-out.
- 4If cleared, switch on the Real-money Tokens module, the rest of the app doesn't change.
